Don Lavender is Camino Recovery’s Programme Director. An American psychotherapist with more than 30 years experience in clinical management and consultative positions, working in some of the most effective and best-known treatment centres in the world, including the Priory hospitals in the UK and Sierra Tucson in Arizona.
Our very own Don Lavender featured on the health and beauty slot on Mijas Radio 3.40 with Karen McMahon, discussing Camino Recovery and the different types of treatment the recovery centre has to offer. Don explains in more depth the processes of treatments and how they are applied to specific recovery clients, also touching on Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
EAP is a unique treatment Camino Recovery offers, involving horses. Don is perhaps best known for his pioneering work in equine-assisted psychotherapy, or EAP, which he helped to develop in US treatment centres some 20 years ago, also launching a book on the treatment.
EAP is now widely used in the treatment of trauma not only in addiction cases, but also to help former soldiers who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.
Having previously been on Mijas TV with Karen, Don has built up a good relationship with her which comes across in the interview.
